disabling DEP; Data Execution Prevention - NoExecute

Mar 6, 2007 11:12PM PST

I've had trouble with DEP preventing scanning within Adobe Acrobat 8.0. I tried to disable DEP for this program but the OS (Vista Ultimate on one system and Business on the other) says that Acrobat.exe must run wiht DEP on.

So, I've found a way to disable DEP (like was available in XP):

1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on ?Command Prompt?, and click ?Run as administrator?.
2. If asked for permission to run Windows Command Processor, click on Allow.
3. At the command prompt, type in ?bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff? (without the quotes).
4. You should receive a message saying ?Operation Completed Successfully?.
5. Restart the computer, DEP / No Execute should now be disabled.

I DO NOT recommend people do this unless they fully understand DEP and possible ramifications for turning it off.
