Disable Java Script in IE 7?

Sep 9, 2010 10:41AM PDT

I read all the time that security folks suggest that java script be disabled in IE7
But won't disabling java script keep some good ( non malicious) content from loading?

That's right.

Disabling Javascript completely will affect many, if not most, web sites today.

Also, IE doesn't make it easy to customise options like this. If you open Tools > Internet Options > Security tab, you can 'set' security levels with the slider, (for example my own is set to Medium-high), but searching through "Custom level" options is a bit of a nightmare.

I prefer a different browser, Firefox, for which I have added the "NoScript" add-on, and this gives me much better control over web site javascripts.

No Script in Firefox

does that cause websites to not give full functioning?

It can

but it gives me control.

I usually tell NoScript to temporarily allow all javascripts in the page, but if I am visiting a dodgy site, eg some link posted in forum discussions here, I will keep them blocked.

When I am satisfied a web site is safe, I can tell NoScript to 'permanently' allow all scripts.
