DirecTV H20 HD receiver MPEG-4

by sls / July 17, 2006 8:55 AM PDT

HD locals are finally available in my area. However, I cannot receive them with my current HD dish and receiver. I need to upgrade to the MPEG-4 dish/receiver(H20 HD).
Unfortunately, the MPEG-4HDDVR is not ready yet.

1. If I install the new dish, will my current SD Directv Tivo in my bedroom still work? I know it will not record in HD but will I still be able to watch AND record my locals in SD?

2. Is the new dish noticeably bigger than the current hd dish?

3. If yes, does Directv have any plans to make a smaller MPEG-4 dish?

Does you box have an over the air hi-def tuner? I own the dish network 811 system I threw up a cheap outside antenna and able to pick up 18 local over the air digital channels 9 in hi-def. Also my over the air digital channels pop up in the program menue. works out great In closing I had Dish network for 6 years and when I called them to upgrade my box to a hi-def system they wanted $499 So I called Dish network and they gave me my system for free. So I'am very sour about Direct t.v. Also if you go Dish network they will give you all the hi-def network channels for free have a cooool day stewee

stew stopped for a little...and now again..every posts involves pushing people towards DLP, dish network, or getting his equipment.

but to answer your question.

a new dish will work with your old equipment. new equipment will work with your old dish (although the HD ones will not be able to pull in HD locals through the dish). you realy dont have to worry about it.

what kind of receiver do you have? they've been selling H20's for quite a long time now(in the chicago land area).

naturally, with 2 more LNB's on there..the dish would probably be a little bit bigger...but i have yet to see it. give them a call and they will tell you.

and lastly to answer your last quesiton...i highly doubt they'll be making a smaller dish....but give them a call and they will let you know.

In reply to: its amazing.

Thanks. I did some research last night and it appears that they are making a Slimline Dish that is smaller than the AT9 dish. Not sure if it is out yet though
