Directly connecting a pc and a mac

I was wondering if it is possible to directly connect a pc and mac together to share files. I am mainly a pc user and have an internet connection that I download programs for a PowerMac G4 that I was given. it is a bit of a hassle to transfer the programs via zip disk or cd-rw. Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Why not install a FTP server on your PC?

Then nab the files from the PC over the network?

Or get yourself a router

and download the files directly onto your Mac.

Of course, once you have the router, you have the network.
Once you have that, you have the ability to move files from one place to the other.
