Direct v. Dish - Which way should I go now?

Nov 28, 2005 12:09PM PST

Greetings All,

I really appreciate all who have taken the time to post their experiences regarding both Direct TV and Dish TV. I live in Maryland and am beyond sick and tired of Comcast's price gouging so I am switching to satellite. I don't need HDTV at this point but I do want a system with DVR and I don't want to miss shows everytime it rains. I would be very interested in hearing how people are currently feeling about the Direct and Dish as I am beyond anxious to stop feeding the Comcastic monster and both Direct and Dish seem pretty comparable in terms of price and options. Thanks to all for responding.

Go with Dish

I researched this for a while and dish is cheater for the same quality as direct. let me explain if your going to connect 4 TVs then direct will charge you 4.99 for every tv after the first, with that said if you select a $50 package you will have to pay about $65 (4.99x3=14.97). but if you go with dish they have dual tuners, you could run 2 tvs with different channels at the same time and is you get the same package of $50 to add a total of 4 tvs you will only pay $55. just the additional 4.99 for the second receiver. And as for comcast they'll give you one digital receiver for the same price and all the other tv's on basic expanded (at least in the area I live in) Hpoe this helped you

Direct v. Dish -

I had Dish for 6 years..much better than the cable I used to have.
As for the "rain" effect. If there was any heavy rain back when I had cable, I could go out for days bfore it would dry out and start workin again.
With Dish if a VERY heavy storm front comes through( about 3~4 times year) I might loose signal for 10 min. John

I'd Go Direct.

I had Dish here in the Central Florida area and would lose the signal each time we would have a heavy rain storm (Which are frequent in the summer). I kept having trouble receiving a strong signal and finally gave up.
I then Subscribed to Direct. The signal is much stronger here and I rarely lose it.
Just MHO!

I really appreciate your insights. I am going with Direct TV because they had better channel selection in my price point plus they have OLN and their satellites are at a higher elevation which should help me in the community were I live. Will keep you posted.
