Direct 3D Problems with Nvidia GeForce2

Jun 3, 2005 12:24AM PDT

Hey, I'm trying to play a game called Ray Crash, and when I try to open it, it closes immediately and says that there are no Direct 3D devices found. In DxDiag the box for Direct 3D testing is grayed out, but the DirectDraw test always passes. I have installed the latest drivers from www.nvidia.com and the newest version of DirectX. I also downloaded the latest motherboard drivers. Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 98 SE
DX: DirectX 9.0c
CPU: AMD Athalon 550 MHz (5.5 x 100)
MTHRBD: Asus K7M
RAM: 256 MB (SDRAM)
BIOS: AMI
Video Card/3D Accelerator: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400

If theres anything else you need then tell me...I got the above info using EVEREST.

I would try
Jun 3, 2005 12:30AM PDT

uninstalling the game, reboot, and then install it again new in case it is trying to call up the older DirectX version that it had problems with and didn't get the newer version registered/configured properly with the game itself.

May be too buggy.

Title: Termination of Ray Crash

Hello to all,

We at e-Games regret to inform you that we will be removing Ray Crash from the e-Games suite of games.
We will not be providing the service for Ray Crash effective immediately. We have came to this decision after considering several factors. We thank you for your support and we hope you will continue with our existing and ever growing number of games in our games portal.

Regards,
E-Games Team"

Try some other game since this one appears to have unresolved issues.

Not the game
Jun 3, 2005 12:54AM PDT

This is not the Ray Crash by e-games...its from pacific asian gaming network. (www.pagn.com) Becuase my Direct 3D isn't available in DxDiag...I'm pretty sure the game is right, and I have no Direct 3D.

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and rebooting, but it gives the same error...and Direct 3D is still not working.

Good ideas, but not the awnser yet :9

what about the NVidia driver?
Jun 3, 2005 12:59AM PDT

has the driver for IT been upgraded?

Yeah

I got the newest one from www.nvidia.com All of their drivers are backwards compatable, so their newest driver works with my GeForce2, but still with no result.

Try...
Jun 3, 2005 1:14AM PDT

See if Direct3D Acceleration is even enabled. Maybe it was diabled somehow, but just look under the DirectX features box and it will say if Direct3D is enabled or not ("Direct3D Acceleration: Enabled/Disabled) You can tell because the button to test Direct3D will be grayed out and unclickable.

A way to disable the button is that Graphics Acceleration slider (somewhere) is not all the way to the top.

Where? + Game info
Jun 3, 2005 1:24AM PDT

Where is the DirectX features box? I dont see it under any tabs in the DirectX Diagnostic tools.

In reply to your other reply:

I tried Direct3D with Diablo 2, and it doesn't work. The game does work, however, with DirectDraw.

' On the Display page, under DirectX Features, check whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, or AGP Support is marked ?Not available.? '

I didn't bother to find a Windows 98se version of this information. I'll leave that to you, but it's the same tool.

And did you push the Hardware Acceleration up to the top?
Jun 3, 2005 2:01AM PDT

* Choose Start, Settings, Control Panel
* In Control Panel, doubleclick the System icon
* Click the Performance tab
* Click the Graphics button
* Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to the right to Full
* Click OK as many times as needed to return to the desktop.
* Restart the computer if necessary.

I had it all the way to the bottom for some reason ^^;;;;

The game is just giving me problems now, freezing instead of starting up...but Ill mess with it some more and see if I can get it to work. The Direct 3D tests out fine in all areas. Thanks for the help!
