digitising 35mm negatives

Nov 16, 2009 4:53AM PST

In 2005 you published an article regarding how best to scan 35mm negatives. I have a pile of negatives and photos to wade through and could not afford the best then. So I waited. Things must have moved on somewhat since then and I was wondering what you would recommend - two options please - what is best and what is affordable of the software and the hardware now available.

Thank you

slides to digital
Nov 20, 2009 9:24AM PST

I am also wanting to take thousands of old slides and make digital. Now that I have waited so long I will be in hurry to get completed before Christmas.

What are the current recommended options?

Thanks!

thousands before xmas?!?

If you do it at home, that's all you'll be doing until then. You don't have a day job either, right? The only way to get thousands done before then is to ship them off to a service and pay to have it done. Scanning is a tedious process at the best of times, especially for slides.

digitizing slides

Unfortunatley, I am one of millions currently unemployed, so I have the time. If you know anyone looking for a Project Manager, Account manager or Business Analyst, please let me know.

Digitizing slides

I have used the *ion FILM2PC slide scanner with reasonable success. It cost 50 GBP from Maplins. I have done 1300 slides to date, which would have cost hundreds of GBP. The auto white balance can be over bright causing lack of definition in high contrast slides. But I have now been able to share my slides with my childreb and grand children for the firsttime.
