I wouldn't go with a DVD camcorder. They just aren't that great yet, and they don't have the recording length you need.
Just get a regular MiniDV camera.
-You can get one for a great price.
-You can get tapes in bulk and get them for about 1-2 dollars each
-You can digitize to computer the video or audio portions and do whatever you want with it! Make DVD's, make CD's!
-You can connect your camera to a TV for playback, burn media to a DVD for playback or even get a MiniDV VCR for playback.
Hi,
(I posted this yesterday to the digital camera forum. Thought it would be better off here, as someone pointed out.)
I'm looking for a digital camcorder within certain constraints. I've done some research but am still not sure what models and digital media will be best. Any advice greatly appreciated!
We've accumilated an archive of 1500+ VHS tapes (of our own video recordings) and would like to switch to digital media for all future recording. That way, we can save physical storage space, easily make transfers/copies, and worry less about VHS tapes wearing out.
---Require cheap media, ideally equivalent to the price of a 4.7GB DVD-R.
---Media should be able to store at least 90min of video (with sound)
---Play back the video on standard consumer equipment
---Should be able to easily extract the audio portion of the recording and burn to CD
I envisioned a digital camcorder that uses standard DVD+/-R disks, but I don't find any. Also, as I understand, the mini-DVD disks store only 30min of recording and are 5x the price of standard DVD disks.
Again, mant thanks for any advice.
Best Regards,
Joe
