Digital Resolution for 4x6

Jan 13, 2005 10:03PM PST

I have a JVC GR-DV500U digital camcorder that does stills at 1.33 megapixels. The camera does stills ranging from 1600*1200 down to 640*480; settings range from Fine to Standard/automatic and manual. I would like to know the best resolution for 4x6" prints and/or manual vs automatic. In advance, thanks.

4 x 6 prints

You will need all the pixels the camera can produce so set the camera for 1600 x 1200 Fine.

That should produce a good 4 x 6 print.

I can't help with auto/manual as I do not know what they do on that camera.

If you reckon 300 dpi on a printer printing 6X4 is a good enough resolution, then 6X300 = 1800 and 4X300 =1200 . 1800 x 1200 = 2.16 mega pixel then that is the camera you need.Probably your 1.3 megapixel shots won't be that good for printing.Llucyy

Thank you for the reply. What about the printer that's 600dpi and higher? I plan to upgrade the camera to a sole digital camera vs camcorder/still combo if necessary.

I just noticed your reply today; perhaps you can reply directly to my email at tanned55@verizon.net

Again, thanks
