Question

Digital optical light on my TV cuts off after 15-30 mins

Aug 18, 2015 8:42AM PDT

Help! I recently just bought a Vizio 43" tv model number E43-C2 and is a couple weeks old. Straight out of the box and while setting up, I noticed that I was getting no sound through my bose cinemate series 2 speakers which is pretty much plug and play through a digital optical or toslink cable. I also noticed there was no light coming from the optical port on the tv or even through the cable itself so I decided to use the red and white cable for sound through the bose and it works. A few days later I finally noticed there was a red light after turning the tv on so I plugged it in and it works also. I was happy and thought the problem has fixed itself but the sound cuts out and there is no light after 15-30 mins of being on. This has happened everyday coming home from work and it only works when first turning on the tv. I've tried different cables and different sources and settings and it's definitely the tv. I was just wondering if this is something I can fix myself or if I have to send it in for repair which I do not want to do because it's a big tv and I will be without one for a couple weeks which I totally want to avoid with football season coming up. Thanks for any responses and for the help,it is greatly appreciated!

Answer
The cost to repair is too high.

Now if you are very lucky, Vizio has a firmware update, try that. How recent is the buy and from where? Costco's deal is outstanding but let's hear more.

If you were to swap boards you void the warranty and are going to buy boards to swap. The cheap exits are return to seller for swap or just let them service it. Samsung does service on over 32 inch sets in the home. I can't guess what Visio does.

I got it 2 weeks ago off of Dell's website and is still under warranty. My TV does have WiFi so how would I go about a firmware update? I'll check the settings but is it usually through USB? It would be amazing if Vizio do home visits also, I'll check into that. Thanks for answering.

Be aware I never write how to update firmware.

It's treacherous so I always defer to the maker. Ask Dell and Visio if their web pages fail you.

Hope you understand that if I duplicated their web page and then they changed I'd be wrong and folk would light torches and get out the pitchforks.
