Hey,
I've been looking at the Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom. I like it a lot, check it out!
I am looking to purchase my first digicam. I want it to have a good optical zoom lens. Good battery life, and somewhat compact. What would you recommend.

Hey,

Yeah i was looking at that one and the C-770. It only has 4 megapixels, but otherwise looks great. I was thinking of getting the Olympus Evolt, but it might be too complicated for my first digicam.
To be honest, I think 4 megapixels is plenty. Unless you are going to be printing the pictures off very large, 4mp would probably be more than enough. I would MUCH rather have 4mp of good, rich color, highlights, and zoom than eight megapixels of a poorly captured photograph. Another thing to consider is space. You can fit twice as many 4mp pictures in a storage unit than 8mp ones! ![]()
I think that all will agree that for a standard size photograph (like 4" by 6") 4mp is more than acceptable for a high quality photgraph.
In my personal opinion, the desire to have the best and newest camera drives the demand for 7+ mp cameras. How many people actually print poster-size photos?
I could be wrong though, any other opinions?
4 MP is sufficient for a taking a good photo to take normal albem photos.
iS A COOL CAMERA! iT TAKES 350 PHOTOS FOR ONE BATTERY LIFE and it has all the features, you name it!! Image quality is superb. It is available for $ 425 at Circuitcity.
I have the 765C, bought it new over 3 years ago and it's an amazing camera. I have taken some real quality shots with it. I've been watching SP 550 forums for the last couple weeks because I'm interested in more zoom. I have taken shots out to 300 yards with the help of a tree limb or tripod with it but it's real capabilities for quality shots are realistically 100 yards in. It doesn't have image stabilization like the newer cameras so you have to be extremely steady at full zoom but I think the quality is as good as any camera out there at closer ranges. I'm new to this forum but if I find out how to do it I will attach a couple shots to prove it.
