Most digital cameras will do a good job of taking action shots, in good light.

But when you want to take action shots under artificial lighting, it is a different story.
Any lower cost camera will have marginal results with such shots.

Some lower cost cameras will do well with action shots when using flash. But flash has a limited range.....from 5 to 14 feet for most cameras.
Beyond that distance, flash does nothing for you.

For about $199, the Sony S600 has an excellent flash (23 feet).

One of the better choices for low light situations is the Fujifilm F10. But don't expect miracles when it comes to low light action.

The lowest priced low light action camera is the Canon 350D Rebel with the 50mm f1.8 lens. That will cost about $850
