If you camera has firewire (or iLink as Sony likes to call it), here is a different solution to get your camcorder data onto DVD:
Buy an ilo (ILO) set-top DVD player/recorder - model DVDR05.
Available at WalMart for under $100.
It has a firewire connector on the front.
You will need a firewire cable to connect the camera to the ilo. The ilo has the same type of connector as is on the camera. WalMart also has the cable for about $20.
Put the camera in playback mode and start recording on the ilo and it copies the tape to the DVD+R media.
I tried it with a Sony camera and it works.
Note: ilo is a WalMart brand but the DVDR05 is made by Sansui.

Which CamCorder are you using with your HP?
This HP has no firewire? How much is a firewire cable and will it work on the HP PC with a new Digital CamCorder?
Digital CAM JVC or Canon?
Which should I buy? Only as a entry level weekend hobby of taking video of
my gran-kids and transferring it to the hard drive then to a DVD.
Both are on sale for $300
