Digital Cable versus Satellite - help!

Oct 9, 2004 2:25AM PDT

Hello all. I live in Boston and am trying to decide whether to get Comcast Digital cable with the HD and HD-DVR package versus DirecTv and its HD package. Which system has the better picture quality and sound quality? What are the pros and cons of each? Please give me advice on which to choose -Thanks!

Both looked equal to me. But the common complaint is that some "content" doesn't look better. It's this simple... The original content was not HD so you don't get much gain.

I'm near Boston and the dish would wink out due to weather. It only did it 4 times in a year and at about an hour max. You decide if that's a big deal.

In closing, I went back to analog cable since I wanted local channels and have too many sets to service...

I do custom installations out on the west coast (SF Bay Area) and we also have Comcast cable out here. Most of the dig cable channels are fine but the first 70+ channels are hit or miss. I probably do 1 cable only house to 50 sat only and 20% of the time its both. The problem with cable boxes out here is that they are slow, have horrible GUI's, and you have to read the adds in the guide mode. My opinion is DirecTV, hands down. You can go to your local electronics retail chain and get a 3 sat rcvr package for $100 and get a full $100 rebate. You pay $40 to $100 per month, depending on what package you go with and $5/per month for each additional box. I do $40+$5+$5, so thats $50 a month and it includes local channels. The only other thing you will need to decide is what HD channels are important to you. Eventually they will probably have all the same HD channels.

Digital Cable versus Satellite

Hi - I used to have comcast digital cable. Didn't have HD though. I now have DirecTV HD. It's awsome! If you go to www.jdpower.com it has rated comcast #8 of all cable and satellite ptoviders. DirecTV has been #1 the past two years and the year there #2. Dish Network is #1 this year. Thanks!
