Digital cable screen instability when using cable menus

Jun 24, 2009 2:56AM PDT

Does anyone know how to fix this? My TV (Phillips plasma) screen starts to ficker after being on the guide or menu screen for a few seconds. The instability increases to the point where the screen will go blank or fill with horizontal lines. Very frustrating! Will throw remote out window soon! Thre is no instability whatsoever during normal veiwing.

If this is through the cable box,

I would suspect something is wrong with the box.

Thanks ahtoi. However I have had three boxes, two with Comcast and one with Verizon FIOS, all with the same result so it is unlikley that that is the problem. However could it be my Denon receiver, as all audio and video from the box passes through this on the way to the TV? However it is strange that it is only happening when the menu is displayed.

Try this

To pinpoint the source of a problem, it's always best to start a process-of-elimination. If you suspect your Denon receiver, why not take it out of the loop and plug your cable box directly to your TV and see what happens?

makes sense

Thats a good idea. The problem potentially being with components other than the TV did not occur to me until the last post. Will play with it tonight.
