digital audio out(optical) not working

by rnelly04 / September 8, 2010 12:48 PM PDT

I switched the setup of my system recently from component to hdmi and I can't get the audio to work. I have hdmi from my cable and ps3 running to my TV then digital audio from my TV to my reciever. I have the internal mute on the tv and still no sound. I can get the auxilary audio to work but not the digital audio. Any help would be great!

I have a similar problem. Optical audio out from my c8000 to my home theater system (and old spare receiver) does not work. I switch to external speakers and no audio at all from any sources, hdmi, red/white, streaming from TV, ect. Whenever I have used a piece of equipment with optical audio out active there is a red signal light coming out of the other end of the fiber cable, this has never happened with my tv. I already had my mainboard replaced for a power problem and the old board had the same problem. Am I doing something wrong???

Also having the same problem, had one with that problem, had a replacement and that is still the same. Cannot output through optical or the Audio Return Channel (HDMI 2). The shop display model where I bought from also has the same problem. Tried different home cinema kits and different cables. Also have tried all the usuall resets ect. What is the solution?

Have you gone into the Audio Menu and set the television's settings to "External Sound" to "ON"? If you can list the model number, I can look into this further.

I have the same problem with a PS50C7000YF

I seem to have the same problem connecting a Samsung PS50C7000 model T.V to an older Yamaha RX-V520 AV receiver.
No sound comes out of the AV receiver.

There is no light coming out of the Optical (Toslink) jack on the T.V.
I have checked the cables on another Optical source and they are fine, you can see the light coming out and they transmit a signal.
In other words, the cables work.

The receiver will take a signal from another source, so the AV receivers optical in ports work.

It is a compounded problem
There's a couple of variables.

I recently (February 2011)did a firmware upgrade via a download from Samsung.
I didn't turn the AV receiver on after doing the upgrade.
The next day, I moved the T.V and AV receiver to a new cabinet.
It worked fine before the upgrade and the move.

Not now, no sound is outputted from the T.V to the AV receiver.

I don't know if its the upgrade, the optical out port on the T.V or I'm just too stupid to work it out.

Have you plugged in the optical adaptor for the tv? Its a small cable that come with the tv. On one end it looks like a headphone adaptor and on the other end it has a female optical socket. That was my mistake for not seeing a red light coming down the cable. I was trying to put the optical cable directly into the tv.
