digital audio out on my edtv

why does my digital audio out on my panasonic th-42 pd50u have a cover over the conection output and when you remove the cover there are only pins on a panal which you can,t use without some kind of adaptor. help?.

There are two types of digital audio connections.
1.Coaxal digital, uses an RCA connector and the cable is 70ohm coax.
2. Toshlink optical, which uses a fiber optical cable ( did you see a red glow??) and the conector has a cover to kepp dirt out. I think this is what you have. John

thanks for your reply,you should be working for panasonic,can,t get any info.out of them period. are these cables readily available,thanks again.
