I have a Sony DCR-TRV740 Digital8 that has a horizontal video resolution of 480 - 500 lines. I read the DV standard only goes up to 530 lines and we are talking about a nearly $2,000 camera to do that.
IMHO the Digital8 media is superior to miniDV because of the greater tape width and tape speed across the helical recording heads. I have used three high end prosumer camcorders, each with 3 CCDs, and though the color rendition is superior, I don't think the resolution is very much better.
Reading on the website I see that mini dv camcorders have better resolution than regular digital camcorders. What about Digital 8 which is what I have? I thought digital was digital?
