Digimate portable photo storage problem!

Aug 26, 2010 1:48AM PDT

Hi, I recently purchased a Digimate 500gb portable photo storage unit to take away on my travels. I have used about 50gb so far and it worked fine for the first month... but now when I try to use it an error message appears on the screen!!!
The battery is fully charged and it turns on, saying it is ready to copy, but I can't review the memory status and computers don't seem to read the device when plugged in via USB cable.
I have a lot of photos stored on the device (which I hope are still there!), but I am not sure whether to try and upload more photos to the device, incase it re-formats or something and wipes all the existing photos!

If anyone knows anything about these things, I would really appreciate some advice as I am stuck here in Nicaragua and am fast running out of SD cards for my camera!

Thanks!

Robbie

This digimate II product is really beneficial. I found a problem related to that unit. Let me know either way if this helps.

Info: Lets you download multiple digital data cards to the storage device. In essence, it's a standalone, self-powered external case that accepts 2.5" drives. With LCD screen, writes a separate folder everytime you download a data card.
Problem: internal drive can slide partially off the connector. You need to reseat the drive. Suggestion has been to shim the drive to prevent movement. Source did not mention want was used, but I think a foam wedge should work.

Shimming!

Hi, thanks for the reply! Not really up to speed with "shimming"... what does that mean exactly? I?m guesing that would involve taking the unit apart... would that not be risky if I have a lot of photo already (hopefully) stored on it?

Thanks alot for your help! Really appreciate it.

Regards,

Robbie

With the power off:
According to the site you open the case via 4 small screws on the sides and then just slip the HDD into the connection inside of the Digimate III, then of course put the screws back in.

There is supposed to be a foam core that keeps tension on the drive so it will not slide off the connection block at the rear of the drive. Just press the drive back on the connnector. The site also mentioned that the foam core can become "compressed" by rough handling, shock to the case.
