Dig. Camera Help

Jun 14, 2005 2:35AM PDT

I am going to be purchasing my first digital camera.

I will be using it for ebay (closeups) and then general everyday. I would like one that can also print clear 8x10 pictures. I don't want to spend a fortune.

Doing some research, I am trying to decide between the following. Any other suggestoins?

Olympus D-595
Kodak EasyShare DX7440
Nikon Coolpix 4600

If you are going to be using the camera for closeups for eBay, that means you are going to be doing tabletop photography.

For that purpose, you need to be able to control the shutter speed and aperture.

The Olympus D-595 and Nikon 4600 will not let you do that.

The Kodak DX7440 has
aperture priority
Shutter priority
ability.

Well, maybe and maybe not

I do quite a lot of selling on Ebay and frequently insert close-up pictures and usually choose the super size format.

I just carry the item outside, place it on a colorful bath towel on a patio table and use my Minolta Dimage X20 which, by the way, has no macro setting and doesn't need one; and no other settings to speak of. I have another, much fancier camera, but the X20 is easier to use.

Frankly, my Ebay photos are better than 99 percent of those I look at...a lot are awful.

Kodak

I ended up going with the Kodak. I got a good deal, at least I think it was a good deal, on ebay. It includes the camera, print dock, 256mb memory card, tabletop tripod, camera bag, and all the other stuff the camera itself comes with for $280 (that includes shipping).

I have used other digital cameras in pass that have only been 3mp and have been very happy with them so hopefully the kodak won't disappointe me.

At work I use the Kodak DX6440 which takes great pictures and I am assuming the DX7440 is the upgrade so should work just as good. Not sure what the difference is between the two but I am assuming it won't be a lower grade then the 6440.

I understand that to be a good camera, the D-595. I recently ordered the C-5500 Sport. You may check it out. It has an excellent Macro zoom. This will be my second Olympus Camera.

This is a great camera, macro mode is helpful, but even without using it I can get some very good close up pics. It has a lot of useful features, small and easy to use, takes lots of pics when using sd memory cards, takes great pics inside and out. I am very pleased with mine. Best of all it uses AA batteries which are very cheap to replace as opposed to other cameras which have rechargable batteries. SD memory cards are cheap, it has USB cable to transfer pics to the computer, and SD card readers are cheap to add to any system with a USB port.

The reasons I bought this one are PRICE, size, type of batteries, and expandable memory, and zoom ability.
