Question

difference between dsl and fiber at same speeds??

Dec 29, 2013 3:57AM PST

ISPs seem to offer either DSL or fiber connections that purport to cost about the same for the same upload and download speeds. Is this really possible? How would the 2 differ?

We could give DSL the edge for one area. I'm not going to vet my reply here but DSL did have an edge in that each connection was a home run to the internet. Cable was and could get clogged so "ping time" which is something a gamer would fret about would win a gamer over all other things being equal.

I don't think anyone can tell you which is better.

I depends on your location and it's ISP. Generally speaking I think DSL may subject to more interference because it's tied to the telephone line where as fiber optic is more like cable. Supposedly it should be the same if it's at the same speed. But at the same price for the same speed, I would probably take fiber. I have had DSL, and for the fist 3 months, it was great (as promise) but then it start to go downhill. I now have cable for 2-3 years now..but lately it too is going downhill.
