Did I actually get .NET 1.1 Framework SP1? I'm not seeing..

Jul 18, 2007 2:19AM PDT

I've checked a few other threads relating to WinXP suddenly asking for password at start, and that .NET 1.1 SP1 is required to fix this. On Friday, I had a crash and had to reformat HD and reinstall Windows, then sent Auto Update to get everything needed. According to Update History, SP1 downloaded and installed with no problems. However when I look in Add/Remove Programs I only see .NET 1.1 and a Hotfix for it. Should I see something that says SP1 if it's really on my system?

Also, does this have anything to do with having "On resume, display Welcome screen" set, and having "prompt users for passwords from standby", then having Windows not recognize the set passwords and asking users for passwords who never had one set?

For me, TWEAKUI was the answer.

I just use it to autologin. You get to do this again after any .net update.

Thanks for the tip, but I'd really like to know if I have SP1?

I'm not seeing it...

OK, checked IE7 About, but I don't see anything about .NET 1.1 SP1 in there. Where would that be? I don't see it in add/remove, just .NET 1.1 and a Hotfix for it.

Reading this thread, you seem confused to me
Jul 18, 2007 12:52PM PDT

There are two issues here, IE 6.0 SP1

OR

.NET Framework 1.1

As "tomron" said, open your browser>help>about internet Explorer >and you will read what IE, version, and SP you have.

For finding out what .NET Framework you have you are correct, that will show in Add and Remove.

And on another note, I spent hours with Microsoft News Group on a fix as to why the latest .NET Framework 1.1 updates will not install>>had no success with Microsoft at all. I am going to wait until Microsoft's next months updates hoping for their fix.

Read this site with lots more information about this months failures

No, my question is just about .NET Framework version. I already know what version IE I'm running. Tomron was confused...

And thanks for the link....

Thanks for the link to the "failures" thread...nice to see Microsoft right on top of things as usual.
What really burns me is how much money they are making creating messes for the rest of us, and then have the nerve to charge $49 for opening a support issue for you on a problem they caused.

Do I actually need this?
Jul 18, 2007 9:23AM PDT

Thanks for the links. I've had nothing but trouble with MS .NET Framework 1.1 being installed without my knowledge (I know I never downloaded it) and then suddenly everyone gets asked for a password, including the Safe Mode Administrator account, and then no one's password will even work.

So I guess I'm wondering at this point, can I do without it or is this something that Windows XP needs to work correctly? If not XP, what does use this program?

I did actually uninstall .NET 1.1 version. I've somehow got 2.0 and 3.0 on the system also. Do I need all these versions?
Thanks for the help.

Thank you, I do have ATI Catalyst Control Center. Specs say "The Microsoft .NET Framework is needed." No version is given. Guess I'll see if it will run with 2.0. OK, memory jogged. When I reinstalled the OS, I went to ATI to get the CCC software again, and I do remember that message popping up. So I guess I really did download the 1.1 version. Right after that is when I got the password requests popping up.
Off to test and thanks for the help!
