General discussion

Did C|Net & Sandisk just forget?

Apr 17, 2006 2:52AM PDT

Well Sandisk E200 series is supposed to be out by now..But where the **** can I purchase it. On Sandisk it is 4-6 back ordered, and there are no retailers for it.

C|Net on the other hand just gave up. No video, no nothing on the product.

I want my ******** E200, since I had a Iriver 1GB which I litarly threw out due to 40minute battery life. I am using a Sony Minidisc player right now FFS! It holds 30 songs lol. I have like $300CAD ready, but this MP3 just WONT come out!?

I Feel Your Pain...
Apr 17, 2006 3:07AM PDT

I got tired of waiting for the Sansa so I went out and got the Samsung YP-Z5. Great little player but I have since began using audio books and now I want the extra space so I am still going to get the e270 6GB.
So Friday I went to Best Buy and Circuit City....

Best Buy had the 4GB model in stock but not the 6GB. They could not tell me when they would have it. I very much wanted to check out the 4GB but they had no display model and would not take one out of the box.

Circuit City had nothing. They showed that they were supposed to be carrying 9 in stock but none on order and none on their truck.

Grrr.

I want..
Apr 17, 2006 3:13AM PDT

Wow. Where do you live? I live in Toronto and I'm going to go check out BestBuy today.

I want the 4GB model, I only have about 500 songs so it would suit me well.

RE I Want..
Apr 17, 2006 3:42AM PDT

I live in Salem, Oregon.
The Best Buy here had the 4GB for around $239 in stock.
I thought about getting it but I want to check out the sound first and I need the 6GB (7GB with the expansion slot).

ME TOOO!!!
Apr 17, 2006 4:01AM PDT

ARHG< i'm getting very impatient as well! I'm in the same boat you are and using the MD LOL

Bestbuy.ca (Canada) told me via email that they had no plans on carrying it, but the American Bestbuy.com now has it on their website, so i dunno, maybe in a month or something canada will have it. =S

I'm getting closer and closer to going to bestbuy and grabbing the samsung YP-Z5 as well.

SanDisk Sansa e270
Apr 17, 2006 8:00AM PDT

There's been a review of this player up since March - http://reviews.cnet.com/SanDisk_Sansa_e270_6GB/4505-6490_7-31684140.html - and it also looks like you can preorder from CircuitCity.com, but not sure about Canadian availability.

If you only need 4GB, consider the Samsung YP-Z5 instead. It offers better sound quality. In fact, it's tested the highest of any player so far. (We were loaned some audio monitoring equipment that we're now using to test the sound quality of MP3 players. Stay tuned for a story about the results.)

YP-Z5
Apr 17, 2006 11:16AM PDT

The YP-Z5 is a good player, but the controls are almost impossible. I was playing around with one in Best Buy and I thought it was broken because whenever I pushed it down it would select it and when I didn't press enough nothing would happen. Getting the right amount of pressure to move up and down is kind of hard.

mmm....
Apr 17, 2006 11:51AM PDT

I don't think the controls on the Yp-Z5 are THat bad. I've played around with it also and the up and down arrows are kind of pressure sensitive and you have to tap it with a certain amount of pressure and it'll react properly everytime. Like other have said, you gotta get the right touch down and it's easy.

The 2 things that stopping me from buying the YP-Z5, even tho i can get it right away, is the fact htat it is only 4 GB and the Sandisk will also come with higher resolution. The Samsung looks slightly pixelated, although not nearly as bad as the zen micro photo, I still notice it, and if there's something better out there then I want the better one.

Samsung YP-Z5 Res = 128 X 160 on a 1.8" screen.
Sandisk e270 Res = 220 X 176 on a 1.8 " screen.

Also the GUI of the samsung is nothing special.

The question is...HOW much better IS the soung quality of the samsung over the sandisk??? is it a big enough of a difference to overshadow the better resolution, 2 extra GB, and FM Tuner???

the controls are fine
Apr 18, 2006 12:38AM PDT

just take a little getting used to is all
15-20 minutes to master them
given the dedicated volume control, I would not trade the controls for the Nano clickwheel

I am SOO pissed aswell.
Apr 19, 2006 6:27AM PDT

Well I know the c100 seris have alrady appeared in Canada, so far the only retailor I have seen sell it is futureshop, and it is all sold out already! Came out last week, but the e200 I still cannot see. I gave up I jsut couldnt wait nomore and purchased a 1gig iriver t10, I was planning to get the 2gig e200. So I would advise you to wait a while longer, and email futureshop, I think they will have it the earliest since they got the c100 the earliest.

Futureshop and Bestbuy Canada are the same company...
Apr 19, 2006 6:44AM PDT

...and I was told best buy doesn't carry sandisk products, so i can't see future shop having them.

The guy at bestbuy also told me that bestbuy canada and bestbuy USA are completely different companies...*?*

Best buy in the states carries it, but Canadian best buys don't have any sandisk products.

Wierd how Futureshop would carry it and best buy wouldn't.

checked out the e250 (4GB) yesterday at BestBuy. Unimpressed
Apr 19, 2006 6:58AM PDT

The controls and responsiveness of the interface were clunky and the sound was not even close to the YP-Z5, especially the volume.
The video works well but watching it on such a small screen was less than thrilling.
I had purchased the YP-Z5 with the idea that I would "trade" it in (within the 30 day return window) for the e270 but after checking out the Sansa I will definately be keeping the Z5.
I just hope Samsung comes out with a 6GB or larger version sometime.

Finally.
Apr 20, 2006 8:11AM PDT

Well theres finally a video, but still no retailers in Canada.

I checked out Best Buy on the weekend with no luck except I looked at the Archos Gmini 420 which was my fallback choice..It was a huge disapointment. It was on, but didnt work actually work at Best Buy and the screen was just so small and the device itself was ugly =\

I guess all I can do is wait now right?

when is this going to be out ?
Apr 20, 2006 9:38AM PDT

i was waiting for this player, and then finally give up .i decided to go for the "Samsung Yepp YP-T8Z".
this one has the same functions as the sandisk sansa one, but the problem is that it come in 1 gb only in canada.i heard that video files on the sandisk takes up a lot of space.
why not try this little samsung, if you dont like it refund it.
