by overkillphil / January 28, 2018 9:27 AM PST

it started early morning went to about 2:00 pm, the computer would lock up, freeze, I couldn't do anything with it, hold power button to shut it down, it would come back up running for a little while and do it again, screen would go black, and nothing... hold power button down shut it off, I unplugged it from the wall twice and let it sit for 5 minutes, start and do it again... screen would freeze could not click on anything it was stuck.. some time around 2:00 pm midwest time -- it's an Alienware R7 one week old... today is seems ok, three other people I know had similar problems yesterday 01-27-2018 all running win 10

No but my new laptop did have issues until
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / January 28, 2018 9:49 AM PST

I updated the video drivers. I let Nvidia's GeForce Experience app update and it got a lot better.

I worry about this industry. It has not shown much progress in drivers and such for over a decade.

Yes had problem with Windows 10 on Jan 28
by SNOWTGR / January 29, 2018 1:21 AM PST

I had the same sort of black screens issue. But when I was finally able to shut down and restart, I learned that it had been trying to install some updates or perhaps features (the word features popped up once). Once I forced the restart from a cold boot, it seemed to take effect and the problems went away. I found your post when I was looking to see if anybody else had issues with this feature update. And why over the weekend? Timing seems odd. I ran Norton and Malwarebytes scans to check for anything bad, but all seems clean.

Now that you mention this ......

My nephew called me on the morning of the 26th .
He opened the body shop and overnight the comp was stuck at %99 after an Win 10 update.

Made a Media Creation Tool following These instructions  on a flash drive and selected
" repair installation of Windows without losing those programs and settings? Yes, there's a way. Although it sounds odd, the solution is to upgrade Windows, using the same edition that's already installed and choosing the option to keep files, apps, and settings."

His home built desktop comp was back up and running in about 10 minutes.
We never did figure out the exact reason this happen

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
