dialup speed on windows xp

Feb 20, 2004 8:43AM PST

I purchased a HP725n with windows xp home edition. The original modem would only get 14-19,000bps. Hp was no help. I replaced modem with a U.S. Robotics 5610b and got increase in speed to 21-24,000bps, but no faster. My old computer plugged in to the same jack gets 36-42,000bps. Any suggestions? I checked the settings and all seem corredt.

Get the original modem (Lucent Win Modem)8.28.0.0 after the reinstall go to start>controlpannel>(switch to classic view> double click phone and modem

Under the header MODEMS youll see Lucent Win Modem click on "properities" and under the ADVANCED header where it says

"Extra intialization commands:"
in the blank space put this->
+MS=V34,0 <- That is a zero not an O

May 1st want to try without the ,0 but its better with it.
I connect at 19200 without this Extra settings as well.
with it I always connect at 31200

Hi pick up your phone and make sure you don't hear any sound in the telephone line(specially when its raining ) if you do call your tele..company and have it repaired. i always connect at 52,000 bps.. sometimes it connects at 31,200 so what i do is disconnect and reconnect and i get back to 52,000 Happy
