General discussion

dialer threat

Dec 5, 2003 6:01AM PST

As previously posted my NAV 2004 found 2 at risk files during a scan and I was unable to remove them. I tried turning off system restore and rebooted in safe mode then re-ran the scan and they still won't remove. Also have ran trend,AV and nothing showed up there. Have also ran ad-adaware and nothing there.
The file name is: webcam.exe
threat name: dialer Tibs
action: dialer found
status: at risk

location: C:\windows\downloaded Program files\conflict.1\webcam.exe

any other suggestions as to how to remove these files

thanks
Nancy

Rightclick on "Start" > Explore - can you see the files there somewhere - also look under Program Files!

RIGHTclick on Start > you'll get on top open , then EXPLORE - click on explore > a new window will open.

If you can NOT find the files - I guess, there is only one last thing you can do:

Download and run HijackThis - get it here:

http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates: "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the link below.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

and post your "hijackthis.log". There are the experts and they will tell you what to do.

Nancy, Try It This Way...

Restart the computer into "Safe Mode" again. Then click on Start-Search-Files or Folders, then type the name of the file, such as "webcam.exe" (without the quotes), then press the "Search" button. Wait for the search process to finish and when the "webcam.exe" file shows up in the search window, RIGHT click on it, choose "Delete". It should now be sent to Recycle Bin. Do the same for all files that you want to remove. When finished, restart the computer and it will load into "normal" Windows. Run the computer for a while and as long as you see no detrimental effects to the removal, empty the Recycle Bin.

Hope this helps.
