Dial up modem question

I have a 56k modem and I have been hearing about the Top speed technology in aol and others make dial up 5xs faster ....what is this and is this true???

The effect is an "old hat trick" which I'll attempt to explain just this once for you. I will speak of it no more.

To give a faster view of a web page, one can PROXY the web content and COMPRESS the graphics to a point that will transmit faster, but may suffer in overall quality. Most of the offerings allow you to right-click and view the image in it's original form.

If you have AOL Top Speedo, then they do it for you.

If you don't have such, remember that the computer you dial into has the other half of this software. If you can fix that, then the answer is yes.
