Dial up connection bon in XP

Feb 14, 2004 12:39AM PST

When I disconnect from the internet and the screen goes back to the desktop theme, the dial up connection box appears and you have to "X" it out. It always appears twice so you have to close it twice. Just started happening about two months ago. Any ideas? Thanks

1. The article [Q316530] explains that when you start your Windows XP-based computer or start a program, the modem may attempt to automatically dial a connection to your Internet service provider (ISP).

2. "Disable AutoDial to Control Dial-up Connections Manually."

Note: The computer will never try to automatically dial up an Internet connection. To connect to the Internet manually, use whatever Internet connection you specified in Network Connections.

Cursor cowboy; thanks for the reply. I tried all three fixes in the article but the dial up connection box still pop's up after I disconnect from the internet or when I reboot. It dosen't try to dial the internet connection, it just pop's up like you clicked on the internet button but if you click connect it won't go to any internet page so it isn't one of the start up programs. Registry was o.k., and autodial was disconnected. Still comes up. Doesn't hurt anything, just not supposed to be there. Thanks again.
