Dial-up access number problem!!!

May 4, 2007 4:09PM PDT

I have Netzero isp and have been having problems using the access numbers to get connected. Sometimes I get connected right away and other times it says cannot connect using access numbers try again later. Is this Netzero, or is it on my end.
Also does having Zone alarm affect getting connected? I ask this because this started happening right after I installed ZA.

Any help would be appreciated. I am also considering changing isp's and trying isp.com. Hoping for better connection.

Thanks,

Just a thought. . .

Have you contacted NetZero?

Did that also

All I got from them was how to trouble shoot the problem....it's the same thing as there help page. I checked everything that was on the list they suggest and still no luck.

I'm just wondering if trying a different dial-up isp would make any difference or do they all use the same access numbers?

I'm stuck with dial-up where I live, and can't afford satillite service on my income.

same problem here...
May 28, 2007 4:56AM PDT

While your problem *may* be with ZoneAlarm settings (check the ZA Alerts&Logs), mine is due to a bandwidth-starved router used by all the local access numbers. Using the closest toll-call number (on a different router) works fine. I have an Earthlink Dialup Account. Earthlink uses the Level3.com network. The problem router is part of the Level3 network.

Earthlink Support has proven impossible, so I contacted Level3 directly; Level3 actually responded(!) and I hope after the holiday will either fix something or let me know why not.

Suggest trying a long distance dialup number to confirm your troubles have a similar cause.

I may have solved the problem

Lately I have been able to get connected right away but I'm keeping my fingers crossed at this point. What I did and this may have helped is I downloaded Winsock fix. This is supposted to help with connection problems in the registre. But now still using faster fox it has been taking longer to load pages from different websites. Most of the sites I go on are repeat sites so I have a different issue going on.
I'm wondering about a software called Speedup my pc. It's like an optimizer to clean up RAM and CPU. It's also supposted to help with internet page loading, etc. If anyone has tryed or knows anything about this software let me know. I'm growing old as I wait for pages to load, lol.

Internet Browser Cache Full?
May 28, 2007 9:12PM PDT

Of course you've tried emptying the browser cache...other than a full cache which can cause never-before visited websites to load slowly if at all, the local-number router dialed into may be overloaded or have issues with it's own internet connection.

Dialing into another router, typically by using a non-local number, if loading is faster, the local router is indeed overloaded, attempting to route traffic for too many connections.

In a Command Prompt window entering "tracert www.netzero.com" without the quotes, the dialup router name appears in the first line.
