DHCP with Dynamic DNS and WINS

May 21, 2009 10:31PM PDT

I am having a problem with my DHCP server that also is running Dynamic DNS performing WINS look ups. Registration is not happening for some reason and the only way I can ping a machine is to add the .domain name to it any ideas?

So the same old issue that's plagued WINS since its arrival?

While I bet many demand this get fixed the usual is to forgo DHCP if you must have WINS and just use hard assigned addresses and a HOSTS file.

Done.

the core of the network here is static with DHCP handling only about a dozen hosts. so building a host file is my best bet?

Your choice here.

This is one of those old issues that I refuse to spend any more time on. There are tomes written about it so my choice is to share what I do today. Your choice to do more research and testing. After so many years I've come to my solution.

Absolutely your choice what to do here.
