Device unavailable

My TDK CD Rom device is connected to the BENQ 1665 DVD Rom; both are on cable select. I am unable to write to the TDK, error message is "deivce is unavailable", yet I can acces and run disks from it, just can not write to it. Ideas please. Thanks.

Yes, cables are new 80 conductor. I also have tried changing from CS to Master and Slave on these two, same error.

Ok, what software?

Some experience this message when they try to use some BUNDLED CD with Nero. What they don't tell you is it's locked to just the make or model you got it with.

More details are needed. Such as what you are using and what you want to do.

Software Nero Express
Oct 7, 2006 1:44AM PDT

The BENQ came with Nero Express software, which works fine with it. However, I just swapped another configuration, with just the TDK, set as MASTER, it works fine. I connected the BENQ as SLAVE, and now the TDK will not write, but, can read disks ok. The BENQ is unneffected either way and works fine.

Sounds proper.

Nothing broken here. Those bundled versions rarely if ever work with other drives.

May I suggest you try CDBRUNERXP (free) since it won't interfere with Nero?

And why didn't you answer my other question? I could have another answer if only I knew more.

I would like to write to both, the TDK, since I have lots of cd's left, and would like to write to the BENQ dvd mostly as a backup since the larger disk capacity.

I can write to both with my solution.

Maybe something was missed in translation?

I deleted the Nero software, rebooted and installed it again. Leaving both devices set in Master and Slave I am able to get the TDK device to write now, both are working ok. Fickle software.... thanks.
