Things to do
Jun 2, 2005 3:35PM PDT

1/ Do a cold boot - ie turn your machine off and startup that way rather than just a restart.
2/ Reboot and enter setup (press (tap) F2 when computer has finished its memory check - look to see that your bios is reading your CDROMs - if not check your cables a firmly plugged in.
3/ Look in device manager and report any red or yellow icons - you can attempt (if you like) to reinstall any associated hardware drivers - in particular look in the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller" folder and see that you have 3 entries, namely, Bus master, primary and secondary controllers.
4/ try add new hardware in the control panel to see if the system finds the CDROMs or attempt to force an installation.
5/ Try a restore point as your system may have got confused/corrupted after the error you had.

If the above don't work, let us know and we can try more things

If you did what he said, you wouldn't have made your previous statement.

Open the case and look to see if the cables are tightly connected. They do come loose over time sometimes.

Go to device manager and see if there are any ? or !
marks showing, if so delete or uninstall the problem driver and reboot.

Since neither of the drives show up, there are 2 possiblities. One is that the secondary IDE controller is either damaged on the board or the Windows driver is corrupt. Do what he said and boot into the BIOS and see if the MAINBOARD can detect the CDRom drives. If the board cannot see them then windows can't see them.

Second possibility is that one of the drives is dead.
Unplu one of the drives at a time and see if the other one shows up and is working after disconnecting.

Remove the ribbon cable from the drive, the power adapter doesn't matter. Leave only one CD drive attached and boot up. (do this with power off)

Leave Hard Drives alone.

If a hard drive is on the same IDE cable as a CDRom, them pull only the CDRom (this is not likely the case)

Other things to try, is uninstall the secondary ide controller, and reboot.
Also, go to device manage and look at DVD/CD drives, if there are any showing remove them.

If none of this works, boot into safe mode and go to device manager and remove the drivers for DVD/CD again and reboot. If they were not showing the first time they will in safe mode.

If none of this works, let us know.

i have tried system recovery, te one that you don't loose any data but it doen's work

i dont want to upon up my computer because i have no skills at it and because i know that my problem was caused by using the wrong firmware
i ussed a lite-on sohw 832s driver instead of a lite-on sohw 822s.

So why didn't you say in the first place

If your computer Bios is still recognising the drive then try a flash the CDROM with the correct firmware. You maybe able to do this by making a boot disk with the flashing software and firmware on it. But I recommend you email the manufacturer and ask them the best thing to do other wise you may end up destroying the drive, thats if you haven't already.
Alternatively, try and force the CDROM to recognise the other driver by changing the driver device manager - but I dont like your chances, but you may get lucky
