A long list of possible causes.
Here's a few:
1. An overtaxed or aging power supply.
2. IDE cables. Hint: I just replace them with 80 conductor cables and set the drives to Cable Select. My recipe and not open to debate.
3. Motherboard drivers. This area wipes most people out since they are under the impression that Microsoft would either supply them or update them with a push button. Nope. You have to do this one the old fashioned way.
4. BIOS. Yup, it matters.
5. CD and other drive FIRMWARE. Rarer, but still in the double digit percent of what I find fixes it.
I have a lite-on sohw 822s burner and a samsung cd-rom drive. The two devics appepeard on MY COMPUTER AND DEVICE MANAGER but after i was forced to restart my computer because of ann error it doesnt show up anymore.
I get no error message beause, my windows xp simply doesnt recognize the devices. I used to work perfectly. This devices are factory ship and i did not install them my self, so i dont knw what haappened.
