More story might help such as some registry cleaner. For now try SR and look at the OTHER SERVICES and put it all to default according to http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
And keep researching at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=vista+blank+device+manage
AND DON'T FORGET TO REBOOT after those changes.

Device Manager Blank
Sony Vaio VGN-NW120J (4GB, 2.1 GHz, Intel Core2 Duo T6500)
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit, Service Pack 2
When I open Device Manager no devices are shown. No error message is given.
I am using a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista Home Premium 64 bit updated to SP2 (system is updated to most recent config.)
Plug and play is set to automatic and is started. Enum permissions in Registry are correct.
Device Manager View is set to 'Devices by type'.
Device Manager Blank. Box appears with icon and title in upper left corner, pull down menus and tool bar buttons, but main body of the box/window is blank.
Don't know what to try next. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
