Device Managaer: Cannot open

I am the administrator using Win xP Pro and I have noticed I cannot open Device Manager anymore. I also tried accessing Services in which won't open.I have tried opening these in safe mode with no problem.
In Normal mode I did notice when trying to open Device Manager, the window momentarily pops up and disappears. Any help would be appreciated.
Note: I have also updated Windows to SP2 recenty.

If MSCONFIG closes as well, you may have a known pest/virus.

Yes, I have tried MSconfig from run and it won't open either. I have done a full scan using my Anti-Virus program and it comes up with NO Viruses found. I also use SpyBot and Adaware with no pests.
Now what? Could I have deleted some file?

In reply to: NETSTATT ?

I checked in Task Manager and found nothing with Netstatt and then did a all drive search and NETSTATT trojan was not listed. I ran a scan after installing Moosoft "The Cleaner" . It found 5 trojans which it cleaned (deleted).

They were:

BDF-(Bandwidth -sucking trojan)
iSearch - three of those - looks like they were Restores listed under C:\System Volume Information.

MySearchBar

Then I tried opening Device Manager again with NO LUCK! I must say I was impressed with the cleaner, but what can I do now?

I'd hit the Virus forum.

These pests are always being updated and revised. I'm not a pest specialist but know to ask in the Virus and Security Forum.

At this point I think you understand the issue a little better and have found pests that your antivirus isn't noting. The Virus forum has simalar tales where the end is usually the pest is found with another tool.
