General discussion

device drivers and installation confusion.

Jul 17, 2010 6:07AM PDT

I recently had my computer completely shut down on me. I realized that I probably needed to install a completely new version of Vista to get it working again. I put in a new installation disk, and continue getting the message, "no device drivers found"

Windows can't find a place to install Vista on. Any help would be appreciated, and if I need to install drivers i'm not sure how I would do this without having Vista already installed.

Thanks.

Depending on your machine

When you turn the system on it goes through the normal BIOS POST checks, (POST = Power on Self Test), before attempting to load Windows. At some stage through that POST, pressing a key will interrupt the process and display the BIOS screens.

Which key you press, and when, depends on the machine you have. For example on my Dell I need to press the Del key on the keyboard during POST. Other makes may have different access keys.
