You may have to do the same.
As to the email viruses, that's beyond anyone's control. I'd rather not write what SPOOFING is, but research EMAIL SPOOFING and you'll find out that someday, email as we know it must die.
I operate the forum ''Ask Maria'' at http://oaxacalive.com/aksmaria using Matt's wwwboard script.
Beginning a year ago offensive messages began to appear by the dozens, the content of the forum was distorted and parts of the page disappeared. We were off line for three months trying to find a solution and uploading over and over again the entire program which the host (Earthlink) kept saying was not in the directory, although it showed there on the control panel and on our FTP client (Fetch).
In December we began operating again and then the page disappeared completely -it opened to the correct URL but there was nothing at all there. Discussions back and forth with host were a waste of time - ''they don't support the script'', in spite of the fact that we were told they DID when we switched to them four years ago.
So we have been keeping backups several times per day whenever there are new postings and just uploading again when it disappears.
Then existing messages already posted on the forum were changed by these invaders. The From and Subject data were the same but when the message was opened the content was totally different and, of course, offensive.
We have asked many people how to remedy this problem but the only suggestions they have are to change host, change software or make users login .
We do not want to require log in unless that would be the ONLY and FOOL PROOF solution. We do not know if changing hosts or software would solve the problem.
Can you please help?
We operate the forum from an iMac 333 MHz, OS 9.2.2 that is inaccessible to anyone but the moderator of the forum.
We have another problem in that ''someone'' has taken over completely our domain name email address (@oaxacalive.com) and sends spam and viruses to thousands of people. Because of that we have stopped using our domain address for outgoing messages but still receive, via redirects, at the domain name address.
If you have any suggestions on how to remedy this, we would be grateful.
