Desktop window

Would anybody know why I periodically get my desktop showing up in a separate window? It appears to have something to do with connecting to a Web site. I am an AOL user and don't really use IE. Any help greatly appreciated.

What does the window look like

do you mean on your desk top or a window as in a web page - if a window is opening what is the title on the window - and what has AOL and IE got to do with it.
