May 16, 2004 5:48AM PDT

Some how my desktop icon descriptions are now underlined. I don't know what I did to cause that, but can it be reversed and how? Thanks for your input. Tom..

Yes & easy to do.
Right click a blankspace on the desktop
click on properties
under the "apperance" (header)
you will see "effects" click that
and the last idem in the popup box that states the following:
hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the alt key.
check this box or right click that topic for more information should you not wish to change it back.

I tried that but nothing happened. Maybe I didn't explain it good enough, but the WHOLE description is underlined. I tried checking and unchecking that box you sugggested, but the result was the same. Am I doing something wrong? Tom

Well at this point after more research all I can suggest is a reboot after you recheck the box. I noticed no difference unselecting and applying eaither.

Only other thing I can think of is
Right click IE
properties
advanced
Underline Links select never, apply, once again, you may have to reboot for this change to take place.
I myself use Eudora as email account (it runs through outlook express by default) and changeing the underline links is un-noticable unless BOTH IE and Eudora happen to be open at the same time.

I would stick with the 1st suggestion with a reboot, and would not hesitate to preform the action on IE as well, a simple uncheck of a box will always switch eaither back as they were.

Meanwhile back at the ranch lol Im going to test both awnsers out myself Rebooting included.
Ill be back <- my Arnold Schwartzennagger impression lol pretty good eh?

My first thought was to ck out folder options, however I have yet to see (even right clicking for more info) which box relates to UNDERLINED Icons.
I know the awnser was a simple one, how about you specifying what was selected for others to benifit from your post!
Thanks!

Re:Re:Desktop Icons underlined? WHAT I DID..
May 17, 2004 1:39PM PDT

Sorry for the delay in getting back as I have been sick with the flu. What I did was go to Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>General Tab. Then I checked the box for double-click to open an item. It really doesn't say anything about underlining but it does remove the lines. When you want to use the single click to open an item, that is when it underlines the item. Very simple, but you have to figure it out on your own, because it does not explain it to you. Thanks for all the help. Tom...
