"Desktop" icon missing from taskbar

Jun 1, 2005 11:53AM PDT

I am using XP Home Edition on an HP xe783 computer. I have always used the taskbar at the bottom to start frequently used programs. Yesterday I noticed that the "Desktop" icon had vanished from the takbar. Now if I want to go to the desktop, I have to minimize all windows. I tried rebooting but it did not help.
Thanks for any suggestions.

How about this: Press and hold the Windows key (the little flag) and press the letter D. Repeat, to return to your page.

Missing display on taskbar
Jun 8, 2005 5:17PM PDT

I recently encounter this problem in Windows XP Home Edition. If I opened a few task windows such as IE windows, some of them will not appear on the taskbar. In the past, the windows will be stacked and labelled in numerical order if there is not enough space to display them. But this time round, it just don't show.

I still can view the windows if I closed the others.

Any suggestion?

Thanks.

If you have many opened, XP

will either group them together if they are similar or line them up side by side until you run out of room and will then create the chevron mark >> at the end of that area so you can click the chevron mark and see the list of the rest of them.

If they are being grouped together, you can change the setting to NOT group them by right clicking in that area of the toolbar and choose Properties.
