General discussion

desktop for primarily dvd & internet

Apr 28, 2005 8:13AM PDT

hey guys,

I'm sure this questions been answered a ton,
but I was hoping I would get responses to it anyway.

If I had a budget around max $2000, I would like to
either get a custom-built computer or one on the market already.

My needs:

I would like to use it primarily for the internet, some game-play, and dvd watching. Simple right?
Also will be doing writing and presentation, so programs such as acrobat, powerpoint, all the microsoft office programs will be need like excel, word, access. There will be specified programs also.

I would like the computer to be pretty quick, fast enough where I am not counting 1-2-3, if you know what I mean. I guess a recommendation of space in terms of memory will need to be taken in account also.

I know this is kind of generic, but give me your laundry list of the "perfect" computer with my preferences in mind. Thanks for any input.

$2000 computer

Hmmmm......likes gaming, DVD watching,... "will be doing writing and presentation, so programs such as acrobat, powerpoint, all the microsoft office programs will be need like excel, word, access. There will be specified programs also."
And with a $2000 budget....looks to me like you may be a good candidate for the new Intel dual processors, but I haven't really looked into it as of now to try and fit it into a $2000 package.

There have been quite a few discussions on configuring a single processor with a $2000 computer that would fit your requirement fairly well. It takes time to research.

Pioneer or Plextor dvd cooker.
Maybe a Pioneer dvdrom, 120-s for DVD viewing and install exe discs.
AMD 64 socket 939
ASUS or ABIT
VIA pro chips with newest drivers are extremely fast for video tasks.
Most boards have 5.1 or 7.1 audio onboard, still prefer sound blaster 2ZS platinum. 24/96 audio.
Speakers? Your choice. Price can bust ya. The T7700 base line 7.1's sound okay here.
2 120 gig hard drives. More then enuff.
At least a 500 watt 2.0 power supply.
Now its Nvidia with a hauppauge pvr card
or an ATI All In Wonder video card.
