Good time to start learning about apps.

Let's say this is a Word document. Since I paid for my Office suite I would uninstall that before I gifted it away.

For each thing, you would need a corresponding application. Care to share what this thing (file) is?

Still need a thing to examine.

So far, e-bay is not a file type so how to open that would be a mystery.

-> Let me guess that's an internet web link. If so the HTML/HTM association could be broken. Try the usual.

1. Set the default browser to IE. (google how if you forgot.)
2. Use the HTML HTM Association fix from Doug Knox (works for Windows xp to 8!)

Remember that for EACH THING the fix will differ. Some folk new to Windows blow up over this but hey, it's been this way for decades.

what brand and model computer?

Failing to know that, and agreeing with Rob that you don't know what's been removed or crippled before you got it. I'd suggest running Linux on it instead. It's a free operating system and you can run it complete or run it side by side with existing system, especially if this is a pre windows 7 computer, you'd have little problem using a 32 bit linux distro loaded as "side by side". I suggest Mint 17 MATE, but there are others you might prefer like Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu (for windows 98 and early XP computers), Zorin.
