Democrat insanity at work

Mar 23, 2020 2:50PM PDT

It was just announced by our exceptionally stupid Dem Governor of Virginia that ALL public K-12 schools are closed for the rest of the school year for 5-1/2 months. Teachers will still be paid and get their pensions paid, even though parents are now doing home-schooling on line with their kids thinking it was only temporary.

Consequences......many parents still have jobs and pay babysitters now for those at home kids. Will they have to pay extra for those sitters to home-school their children? Based on ages and grade levels of those kids, that means perhaps schooling for different grade levels, like my daughter-in-law is already doing since they have three all in different grades.

Does this idiot at the helm (our Governor) know how many families will be working just to pay sitters with nothing left over? Does he realize that many of these kids won't be ready to go to the next grade in August when school MAYBE starts back up? Does he know how many seniors across the state won't be able to go to prom or graduation ceremonies after 13 years of school behind them? The last two months of school for many of them represent the last quarter for report card grading and may be on the edge of actually GETTING that diploma....are they screwed now because they woke up in their senior year and began really trying harder just to have this jerk yank it away from them? (yes, there are many screwups who don't put in the effort until senior year)

What about the colleges (they ARE schools after all)? There are colleges in Ohio that have closed their doors for the rest of the school year and sent everybody home. My nephew was one of them who was living in a dorm that was already paid for, had to pack everything he had there, and go back home to finish his year online. Will he get a refund for that dorm? Not sure if this is happening in Virginia thanks to the jerk in our capital, but since they are schools, I have to assume so.

This insanity has to stop...…….Dems shut down the bill last night that was supposedly already agreed on by filibustering it at the last minute because Pelosi flew back into town hoping to take advantage of five Rep Senators under self-quarantine and pushed Schumer into adding extras for funding that had nothing to do with the virus bill, such as subsidies for solar panels, etc.

I don't know if another vote that Mitch wanted scheduled for today happened yet. I haven't turned on the news for awhile today.

RE:stupid Dem Governor

How bout this guy?.....Florida last week canceled all remaining testing for all students for the school year, and Gov. Ron DeSantis

Ronald Dion DeSantis is an American attorney, naval officer, and Republican politician. He has served as the 46th governor of Florida.

STUPID?

Yes, we have school until August
Mar 24, 2020 5:47AM PDT

and the new school year starts the same month. Why, you ask? Because we also have summer schools for middle and high school levels so kids can retake classes they may have failed and for other stuff like driver's ed which is now a requirement to get your license.

Why test students who are at home now anyhow?

RE:Yes, we have school until August

For ALL students?...

Are you saying there is NO "summer break"?

NO summer break for ANY student?

I've found sites showing in Virginia the "school year" ends June 12 in 2020.

SOME students MAY have to attend "summer school" to make up for lost hours....

But the "school year" ends June 12.

Your 'feelings" on a Republican doing much the same as a Democrat?

Stupid idiot? or he gets a "pass"?

OK...I'll play your game

I specifically said 'so kids who failed a class can retake it and for students who need a driver's license fulfills the requirement to take driver's ed" and this is for middle and HIGH school levels. You went out of your way to spin it into 'all' and 'any'.....so I'll go you one further.

ALL DEMOCRATS AND LIBERALS ARE MORONS WHO ONLY WANT TO CREATE ISSUES THAT DON'T EXIST,  AND YOU JUST PROVED IT.

Our schools and most across the country have school in the summer months for the reasons I mentioned.  IF you lived here you would know that and stop your idiotic, moronic, pat yourself on the back for 'catching Toni in a lie' crap.  You make stuff up just so you think you have the last word when reality constantly shows you know nothing about our country and how it works.  You only want to argue even when you have no ammunition in your arsenal.

RE::OK...I'll play your game

So when I asked

Are you saying there is NO "summer break"?

The correct response should have been NO I'm not saying that...there IS a summer break.

RE:You make stuff up

Is this what you are referring to when you talk about "year round schools"?

In schools following year-round schedules, instructional days are distributed across 10, 11, or 12 months rather than the traditional nine-month calendar. Summer break may be shorter, while other breaks, known as intercessions, may be added during typical times of transition such as the end of the semester. Intercessions may include opportunities for remediation or enrichment. Extended year calendars add instructional days to the mandated annual requirement and may include other features of a year-round calendar.

Summer break MAY be shorter...but there still is a "summer break" even with "year round school"

- Collapse -
Again with your babble crap
Mar 24, 2020 10:51AM PDT

There IS no 'year round school' here....as you insinuated. "Year round school" IS in some areas of the US because the States populace voted for that. The 'summer break' is usually a week long after 'normal' 9 month school would be over, followed by a nearly three month long full session of school again, followed by another week long 'summer break' session, followed again by another 9 month long full session of school.

That is far different from what I'm talking about and you know it. Your 'argument' falls apart regarding what I've been saying and you are twisting into a pretzel trying to show how 'right' you are.

It's not working, JP. Not to mention the fact that you can't even DISCUSS the financial hardships I've laid out for parents because of Dem stupidity while THEY try to make the case that THEY are looking out for the CHILDREN, when their REAL agenda is to break the economy completely before the election. Evidence of that is also reflected in their 'amendments' to the Senate bill that they filibustered against twice.

Where do you place a child's health and well being on your priorities?

What do YOU realize?

Perhaps the child will bring grandma a "present" from "school", a nice case of Covid-19.

Do YOU have a timeline when everything will be "done and dusted"?

Would you rather play it "day by day"? Just wing it?

Children are barely being affected
Mar 24, 2020 5:55AM PDT

by this virus....why waste time and money on testing them....the ones who are affected and show symptoms are actually recovering pretty quickly from it. You are talking about one state stopping testing for kids who are being sent home from school closing anyhow....if they have it, they are already giving it to gramma and the rest of the house or a babysitter, if the babysitter isn't already walking around with it and giving it to the kids instead.

The Lt Gov of Texas made a great point that I've been saying for a few weeks already. People in our age bracket (and his) are either gonna get it or not, but we cannot allow our country to be destroyed by shutting down every state in the union and ruining it economically for our grandkids. Open the businesses again and get back to work. We have less of a response to the number of deaths from the 'usual' flu every year (over 20K in the US alone with MILLIONS dying around the world from it) and haven't shut down the whole country over it.

This is a ridiculous panic going on and it needs to stop immediately.

RE:why waste time and money on testing them

Did I mention testing children?

I did mention them bringing the virus home to grammie /grampy.

No "groups" of people larger than 10 people.....BUT you can have "classes" of 30 children?

Want to have a house party of 100 people?

Just call it a "class" on How to have a house party"?

Yes, you did....
Mar 24, 2020 10:59AM PDT

"Did I mention testing children?" When you brought up FLA's governor making the decision to not test STUDENTS.....or do you think that all those students are adults? Students in colleges who are being told to pack up and go home weren't tested either Perhaps they will bring gramma a present?

- Collapse -
I understand
Mar 24, 2020 12:19PM PDT

You don't want to talk about children "barely being affected" and passing on this MINOR (to them) virus on to others that are not as healthy as the young ones.

I suppose YOU were on the beach in Florida for Spring Break.

RE:Students in colleges who are being told to pack up and go home weren't tested either Perhaps they will bring gramma a present?

And perhaps gramma will have the sense that God gave a goose and tell the young ones to STEP BACK.!!!!!!

The students in college
Mar 25, 2020 3:56AM PDT

are considered to be ADULTS now....not CHILDREN....and many of those on the beaches have been tested when they returned home (left the beach, got on planes or drove, straight back to their homes like stupid people) and are testing positive NOW. Ask yourself why those STUDENTS weren't tested BEFORE they left their colleges and allowed to travel helter skelter all across the country when schools were telling them to pack up and leave?

YOU are the one who kept bringing up CHILDREN in K-12 schools that were closed down and sent home without any thought about whether they were carrying the virus to their homes.

You really need to get to whatever your point is because you're jumping all over the place and not saying much anymore.

- Collapse -
RE:Yes, you did
Mar 25, 2020 12:45PM PDT

Yes...I did mention "students" and I did mention "testing".

YOU connected "Testing" with Testing for Covid 19.

I connected contracting Covid 19 from a student that gets it by being in class with others. Whether the student is young OR old.

You do realize that the FLA Governor was NOT talking about "testing STUDENTS" for Corvid 19.....HE was talking about Students being "tested" for their school work.

Florida last week canceled all remaining testing for all students for the school year,

ALL REMAINING TESTING?.....They have been testing for Corvid 19 IN SCHOOLS? What's up with "remaining testing"? School Exams...NOT Corvid 19 "testing"

I didn't think it was the responsibility of school authorities to "TEST students" for Covid 19.

Your first ¶ says salaries and pensions will be paid,

for no work. Most teachers these days work on contracts. If the gov't closes the schools it shouldn't stop their money. If so, your source was saying the obvious, as clickbait. Or partially quoting the Governor. Or both. Or neither. Did you check?

In my small town teachers are expected to maintain contact with their students during the shutdown. They will be working.

Since your source was no doubt the same, that makes the Pelosi statement suspect. If not, then she's playing pork barrel politics as in normal times. (Does her brother-in-law sell solar?) These are not normal times.

It's now Monday night, and the $1T- make that $1.5T- make that $2T bailout was promised for this morning. Per my mainstream sources, the holdup (!) has been Democratic additions to the package; some relevant, some not.

Anyway, politics as in normal times.

- Collapse -
Teachers here work on contracts as well
Mar 24, 2020 6:00AM PDT

so what's your point? Some are making up 'homework' assignments for the kids to do online.....however, since parents have been shut out of the new learning methods for quite a while now, most don't know how to help with homework so there is no way for them to know if what the kids have done is correct or not until it's turned in and graded; whereas in school, if the kid doesn't understand something they have the teacher right there to ask about it. Parents will be having to pay babysitters for those who still have jobs that they didn't have to pay before and now will have to make sure the babysitter knows the homework lessons costing more to them or pay an extra person who knows the work to check and help the kids when they need it. That is my gripe.....because none of it is a necessary burden.

- Collapse -
... and, since they are getting paid, they still

follow instructions from the administration.
If the parents have no access to the teachers, that's the fault of the district, not the Governor.
That's how ours is working.

The governor
Mar 24, 2020 11:02AM PDT

since teacher contracts are negotiated via state representatives and not locally has an obligation to make sure that kind of thing is lined up and ready to go before shutting the doors of the schools across the state. Or don't you think he/she should be held responsible for that negligence? What administration are YOU talking about?

School District administration; Superintendent.
Mar 24, 2020 4:11PM PDT

Boss of the teachers. Ours has been on TV about every other day.
The Governor does the same in the Capital, on other topics. Latest from her is 'no more than five in a group'. Those developing rules closed the schools in the first place.

Remind me to cancel your contract for child care.

Another flaw in this
Mar 25, 2020 4:01AM PDT

online teaching for K-12 kids.....I don't know about your household, but when parents lose their jobs, they start prioritizing of what they can cut back on financially, and one of the first things to go is the internet charges and cable tv.

And where do you think the Superintendent of Schools gets HIS/HER directives from? The Governor who has to oversee funding from both the State and Federal levels.

No mention of solar panels. That would be routine pork barrel politics, not supposed to happen in a national emergency. It could happen of course, but it's more likely that every politician is keeping one eye on his next campaign; November, for Pelosi. Scrambling for crumbs, so to speak. Also not supposed to happen in etc.

for being so pc anymore that they are still passing kids along to the next grade level whether they qualify or not so as to not have 'fails' on the teacher's/school's records and lose state and federal funding. It's been going on since the 60's and continues. Where have you been besides hiding in a cabin in the woods for most of your adult life, it appears....and again you show your ignorance of how badly things have been corrupted in this country regarding the education system especially. Thanks to Dems and liberals taking it over and apathetic Republicans who let it happen over and over.

In 1973 I had a bumper sticker on my truck that said 'apathy will kill our country'...….the last three years especially has publicly shown how true that had come to pass. That's why Dems are so panicked over losing their power and have chosen an idiot mentally deficient puppet as their candidate. Too bad he can't win against Trump and if they lose the House again and can't take the Senate, the next four years will be a living nightmare for them making their last two years totally wasted effort when they could have done SOMETHING, ANYTHING to work with Trump and get re-elected, which is what they promised their voters they would do in order to get elected in 2018 in the first place just to raise their finger to those voters. Right now, they think they have him over a barrel because he wants a bill he can sign and figure he's desperate enough to give them all their garbage added to it.....how many times do you think they and the media have to get it wrong before they stop their nonsense?

So, exactly what has changed recently to make them "wake up and start really trying" after 12 years ? (as YOU claim)
