DELL XPS M1210 NOT CHARGING !!!

Jan 6, 2010 10:47AM PST

About a year ago I spilled a glass of iced tea on my Dell XPS M1210 and I let it dry for a while and then it worked again perfectly! Then, when my charger was plugged in, the green button was shining on the charger, but on the laptop it shows that it is not charging and its on battery life. Eventually, the laptop battery completely died and I wasn't able to turn it on. I thought maybe the actual battery ran out of life, so I purchased a new one and just received it today. I put it in and plugged my laptop into the charger and again the green light is shining. The laptop turned on, but once again it is only running on the battery life from my new battery. Please help me !! What could be the problem ?!??!?

I appreciate it , thanks to everyone who helps!!

a short?

It might be that the connection has somehow shorted, or the charger has failed...but just a guess, If a friend has a charger with the same jack and output (found on the back of the powerbrick on a sticker) give that a try.

Thanks for the advice. I already tried that and it still didnt work. I might just have to buy a new laptop or something, I'm wondering if it is possible to transfer my files (music, videos, pictures) onto a new laptop?

it is possible.
you can load the filed onto a external hard drive, burn them to a CD, put them onto a USB memory sick,or find a computer that you can put your hard drive in and copy from it to the other, or connect both computers to the same network, and share the files and then copy and paste.

those are just some ideas.

Knoppix ??
Jul 21, 2010 2:55AM PDT

I've had this problem on both an Alienware laptop and a Samsung Netbook both 2 and 3 months old. I've tried all the recommendations on this board an none helped. I had 3% charge left on my Alienware battery. I wanted to see if this was an OS problem (Win 7 64 bit) or not so I downloaded Knoppix 6.2.1 burned the iso to a CD. I shut down the Alienware notebook and cleaned the battery terminals with a small brush. I then loaded the Knoppix CD and once the GUI loaded I noticed the battery started charging. I shut down Knoppix removed the CD and rebooted into Window. Surprise Surprise! The battery started charging. It's now 93% and still charging. I don't know why. but someone else may like to try it. I've yet to try it on the Samsung, but will post back when I do.
