Dell XPS 400 Backup Utility

I decided to back up my Dell400 XPS with the built in back up utility.
Backup is listed on the accessories list, so for about 2 hours, I thought it was backing up to an external hard drive. It said it was complete. However, when I tried to access the info, I received error message: "Backup Utility cannot connect to the Removable Storage service. This cervice is required for use of tape drives and other backup devices. Please exit and start the Removable Storage service using the System Services function of the Management Console"

I don't have a clue what that means and when I tried an on-line chat with Dell, they said it would cost 4129 for an answer, even though the computer is still on warranty.

So now I have this nice hard drive full of info I can't access.

Thanks, Peggy

Just a simple backup.

Let's say you have your drive and that external drive.\

Why not copy what you want to that external? No backup software would be required.

There are BIG problems with XP Backup.

It doesn't support CDR/W or DVDR?W media and is prone to failures.

Many wonder about this but we are talking about a decade old backup program when DVDRW drives were rare and well, a long discussion why this old backup program was included.

There are issues with 4GB files and more with this old XP backup software. While people will charge to answer your question the answer will not be worth a dime.
