Dell x1 or D810

Oct 22, 2005 1:03AM PDT

Hi,

I am trying to ducide between a Dell X1 and D810. I would like to hear from anyone who has either for some advice.

The issue I have are as follows. I unsure about the processor on the X1 as it is only 1.1ghz compare to the D810's 1.86ghz. What do people think?

The other issue I ahve is with the weight/size of the D810. It is 2.94kg's in weight and I have read on different sites that people find this too heavy.

I would really appreciate any views on this as I am very confused. I know I will have to make a tradoff but wonder which one. The price of either is similar, around $2141.

An outside runner is the D610.

Any help please?

If weight is a primary concern, then ultraportable is the way to go. For most people, a 5lb laptop isn't considered heavy. The D810 is about 6, iirc.

As for your processor question, ultraportables use low or ultralow voltage pentium-M, while mainstreams use one of the regular pentium-Ms. Either will handle standard notebook tasks like browsing the net, email & office apps. If you're planning to do something most processing intensive, you should consider a mainstream system like a Thinkpad T or R series.

The T's are light and powerful, while the R's are slightly heavier, but tend to give you more bang for the buck($).

my cousin owns a d810 and a precision m70 and the d810 performs super fast and it is also pretty light weight, make sure to get a 9 cell battery and get a good graphics card and ram. The x1 is way slower and has less battery life.
