Hey...congrats on purchasing a second brain! Personally, my pre-installed brain is a little outdated, so my X30 does all my thinking for me. ![]()
Setting up WiFi on the X30 is usually quite easy. The little button on the far right of the Axim, just past the house icon, activates wireless services (both Bluetooth and WiFi). Once WiFi has loaded, it should automatically find all available connections, and prompt you to chose which one to use (if there is more than one), and whether you want to connect to work (the network in general) or the internet.
Side note: Make sure you have secured your home WiFi connection with a password, so others can't access your network. (See the Wireless Internet forum for more information). Also, it's best to install a firewall (such as the free, low-resource hog AirScanner Mobile Firewall), even though there aren't many current dangers for the PDA, for you never know when you may become the ''test subject'' of a friendly hacker.
If your network is secured with a network key, you will usually be automatically prompted for it right after you connect. If not, tap the ''connectivity icon'' to the left of the speaker on the start bar, and tap ''settings.'' (Or go start->settings->connections ''tab.'') Then tap ''Dell WLAN Utility'' and then ''Edit wireless profile.'' Tap the name of the network you are trying to access, and go to the ''network key'' tab. Enter the key, then close all windows.
Some require web-based authentication. In that case, just load Pocket Internet Explorer (start->programs), and go to either the authentication site (though you will usually be redirected there if you enter any other site url). Enter your username and password, and you'll be all set.
After initial setup, you will never have to enter your key/password again unless the key/password changes or you hard-reset your PDA (or otherwise erase the data containing your settings). Just press the ''wireless enable'' button, and it will automatically connect you to the network. As far as having different providers, it doesn't matter. All of the wireless profiles are stored, along with their respective settings.
Hope this helps,
John
P.S. Since the button launches both WiFi and Bluetooth, you can disable Bluetooth by tapping the blue icon at the bottom right corner of the screen and selecting ''Turn Bluetooth Off.''
Hi,
I just purchased this model and need urgent help in setting internet connection on it. I have wireless at home and at work (though thru different providers - comcast and sbc yahoo).
Can anybody send me tips as how to set this up?
