using same network but don't see each other. Why?

Clarification Request
Network

How are you hooked up? Assume hardwired to router, etc. As Bob Proffit stated, if you don't have sharing set up (both systems) nothing will show up and as he also mentioned it could be an issue related to security software, such as a firewall setting.

Answer
There are many reasons.

From firewalls to the simple fact that if a Windows PC has nothing shared, it has no reason to be seen.
