dell vostro brightness adjustment keys not working

by sdltl / September 6, 2010 9:55 PM PDT

Hello everyone, as you can see i'm new to the site, and i was wondering if any of you could help me out with this problem that's driving me nuts...
i have a vostro 1000, originally it's OS was Vista, however i have recently upgraded it to windows 7, but now the hot keys/function keys of brightness adjustment are not working anymore, all the other function keys are working except just those two. i believe it must be a driver or controller of some sort that needs to be reinstalled or updated, but i can't figure out which one...

could any of you help me out with this? it's getting to a point where beeing in front of the laptop is hurting my eyes

thank you

I wonder if the person who upgraded this for you installed the drivers from dell.com as well as the apps that enable the Fn keys (hint? Dell QuickSet.)

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
