Dell UltraSharp with Macbook

Dec 31, 2012 8:05AM PST

When I link my Macbook Pro with my Dell U2410 I get a fuzzy picture. I have two Macbooks and two Dell U2410s, the problem is the same on both? Is this a common issue? Are there any solutions? Dell "support" is clueless about this. Apple tries to help, but is sure it is a compatibility issue between the MacBook and the Dell U2410.

Or it's the old NATIVE RESOLUTION issue.

Dell Monitor Issue

Yes, this is helpful. After some more research, it appears that some models of Dell monitors have EDID problems which result in distorted displays. A firmware update is referenced here and there, but is not posted anywhere on the Dell website. Any idea where this can be found?

Dell.

Sorry but such would be from dell and you call them (I use the phone) if need be. Maybe it's time to just return them as defective? Why should we have to update firmware on a new device?

Normally I would do that, but the monitors are two years old. The Macs are new.

Let's kick EDID to the curb.

If I set the resolution manually, why would EDID matter? I haven't trusted such things since, well, the beginning. If it doesn't work out of the box I find my control panel and nail down the settings.
